CHILD ABUSE POLICY

1. The Administrators/Moderators do NOT condone child abuse. Those posts containing descriptions of child abuse will be taken very seriously. "Child abuse" can be defined as causing or permitting any harmful or offensive contact on a child's body; and, any communication or transaction of any kind which humiliates, shames, or frightens the child. Some child development experts go a bit further, and define child abuse as any act or omission, which fails to nurture or in the upbringing of the children.

The Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act defines child abuse and neglect as: "at a minimum, any recent act or failure to act on the part of a parent or caretaker, which results in death, serious physical or emotional harm, sexual abuse or exploitation, or an act or failure to act which presents an imminent risk of serious harm."

2. The Administrators/Moderators will move posts containing descriptions of child abuse to the Lock Box immediately in order to protect other members who may be extremely sensitive to reading such posts. This includes creative or artistic posts pertaining to the subject of child abuse. Posts moved to the Lock Box WILL be addressed by the Administrators/Moderators.

3. The Administrators/Moderators reserve the right to use all means necessary to contact a member whose child(ren) appears to be in immediate danger.

We reserve the right to amend this policy, without notice, at any time. Help is available. You CAN recover from this, but you MUST work with a qualified health professional when you are in crisis. In a crisis, call your doctor, go to the ER, call 1-800-SUICIDE. Do whatever it takes to avoid harming your children.

As with all our Policies and Guidelines, failure to follow our Rules will result in a temporary ban from the forums. Continued failure to respect our Rules will result in a permanent dismissal.

SUICIDE/SELF HARM/VIOLENCE POLICY

The people on these forums cannot serve as a substitute for medical care. You MUST work together with a health care professional if you are in crisis.

In an effort to better support our members, and to protect those who may be upset by sensitive posts, we are implementing the following policy regarding posts from suicidal members. The policy will be in effect immediately. Please read below:

1. Suicidal posts, and those posts glorifying suicide and/or self-harm and/or violence, will be taken very seriously. Self-harm may be defined as including intentionally scratching, hitting, cutting, pinching or otherwise inflicting physical harm on oneself, and may also be defined as non-compliance with qualified health care provider instructions for treatment. The Administrators/Moderators will perform an intervention, according to guidelines we have in place, with the member who submits the suicidal post.

2. Suicidal or self-harming members should PRIVATELY contact one of the Administrators/Moderators. Regular members should NOT be contacted privately, as they are ill-equipped to deal with such a situation.

3. Members receiving communication of a suicidal or harmful/violent nature from another member should forward the communication to the Administrators/Moderators immediately.

4. Posts regarding self-harm and/or suicide and/or violence will be moved to the Lock Box immediately in order to protect other members who may be extremely sensitive to reading such posts. This includes creative or artistic posts and posts pertaining to alcohol and/or drug abuse. Suicidal posts moved to the Lock Box WILL be addressed by the Administrators/Moderators.

5. The Administrators/Moderators reserve the right to use all means necessary to contact a member who appears to be in immediate danger.

We reserve the right to amend this policy, without notice, at any time. This policy may upset or anger our members, but we cannot sit idly by and let a member who has clearly stated such intentions act on those inclinations.

Help is available. You CAN recover from this, but you MUST work with a qualified health professional when you are in crisis. In a crisis, call your doctor, go to the ER, call 1-800-SUICIDE. Do whatever it takes to avoid harming yourself.

As with all our Policies and Guidelines, failure to follow our Rules will result in a temporary ban from the forums. Continued failure to respect our Rules will result in a permanent dismissal.

RULES FOR POSTING AND USING OUR CHATROOMS

*Follow the simple rules of Netiquette.

*Do not spam our site.

*You may not issue personal attacks on other members of the forum at any time. It is fine to disagree, but name-calling, threatening, and other abusive behaviors will not be tolerated. Such topics will be locked and moved into our "Lock Box" forum. Violating these rules may result in your being banned from posting here.

*Try to post in the forum that is best suited for your topic. For example, if you have a question regarding medicine, treatment, causes or symptoms of postpartum mood disorder, and duration of the illness, post in the "SYMPTOMS, MEDICATIONS, TREATMENTS & TOOLS FOR RECOVERY" forum. If you come back to check on a topic and you get an error page saying it's been moved or deleted, be sure to check the other forums as your topic may have been moved. Again, barring accidents (even we administrators and moderators are human), topics will generally be moved rather than deleted. Please note that we can't move replies only, we must move entire topics. Should someone come here and post hateful or offensive replies, a moderator will likely move the entire topic into the Lock Box forum until the administrator can make a copy of the offending reply. Then the original topic will be moved back to it's original forum, with the offensive reply deleted.

*Don't become overly involved in another poster's life. We are not medically trained to deal with some of the larger issues that crop up here from time to time, and need to be careful not to get ourselves in too deep. As a new poster, please understand that any advice, answers you get to various questions, etc. should always be discussed with your personal medical professional.

*Don't include personal information such as your telephone number or physical address within your posts. This is a public forum, and absolutely anyone can see such information. If you wish to be contacted, include your email address with your post, or simply turn on your Private Message feature.

*Private messages cannot be replied to unless you have your private message feature enabled, or you include your email address within your private message. It would be very appreciated if you'd turn on the feature to accept private messages. When someone is afraid you may be having a hard time, they'll be frustrated when they can't figure out how to contact you.

*If you are in a VERY bad place right now - whether it be a suicidal, a self-harmer, or just someone who seems to be very unstable, it's important that you do NOT go into the chatroom unless one of our trained team members is in there to help guide the chat. Such a member going in the chatroom with another member who is also in crisis (although perhaps not at the same level of severity) is potentially harmful to all involved in the chat.
